Mihail Gavril The life and work of Mihail Gavril are bound in a direct and natural way to the spiritual worthiness of Bucovina land in Romania, to the natural religious expression within a community which knows no walls or boundaries. Mihail Gavril, a master of the art of painting knows exactly how to bring to life and transpose his surroundings into the best of light. Using different tools he paints in aquarelle or oil and has developed personal techniques which have brought him to exceptional results. Inox- or Aluminum are materials which he uses to create a light-reflection dialog. He also paints on leather in order to tackle the challenges of working on a mat surface.
The works of Mihail Gavril have a key meaning, which often cannot be discovered at first sight. He does not use a special cryptic system in his paintings but rather exposes in a direct and open art the spirit of the moment, a soul glimpsing image possibly reflecting any one of us. Mihail Gavril does not transmit a specific religious message, he is a pilgrim and not a theologian, he is a traveler and an artist who is spellbound by the ever changing mysteries of landscapes and conveys them through his brush and canvas. Mihail Gavril won the Seymour-Obermer Stiftung Prize in 2007. www.mihailgavril.ro
