What can you see coming to ZARVA? 3 Chamber music concerts 5 days of exhibition with sculpture, paintings, drawings and collages in De Kopermolen-Vaals, daily, 2 marionette open air shows in Vaals:
The concerts: ZARVA brings for the first time Romanian music and art together to the middle of this cultural exchange place –EUREGIO Maas Rhein; therefore the musical program of this festival has several horizontal and vertical themes which highlight the meeting of the “Dreiländereck” creators and Romanian artists. The program themes will cross each other during the whole duration of the festival, creating an international, colorful yet unified line one can follow throughout the entire concert program. The goal of the musical program is to contribute to the motto “share culture-become neighbors!” and to enrich the exhibit by commenting alongside the Romanian paintings and marionettes shows. The first horizontal theme to be found throughout the program is the presence of the Romanian composers Anatol Vieru and George Enescu, whose music can be heard both in the opening and the closing concert. The vertical theme of this festival is represented through the presence of well known Romanian musicians in every concert performances. The paintings and sculptures are speaking for themselves: the essential light and the κοσμογονία philosophy of Emil Ciocoiu’s images, the spatial clarity with an expressionistic anatomy of Dinu Radulescu’s sculptures stand near Mihail Gavril’s open art exposing the soul -glimpsing images of a pilgrim’s experience, Paraschiva Galusca’ abstract paintings and sculptures inspired by Fagaras mountains area, and the informal, free and full of symbols universe of collages and graphics of Lena Vieru Conta. Marvelous marionettes will accompany Bruno Mastan, Romanian actor with over 2000 performances in Europe, Asia and the United States. Romanian musicians with international careers, Lucian-Leonard Raiciof (violin) concertmaster of The Hague Symphony Orchestra, Karina Şabac (piano), Lena Vieru Conta (piano) will perform together with Marijn Simons (conductor and violin), conductor and artistic director of the Simons Ensemble, concertmaster of das Sinfonie Orchester Aachen, Fabian Grimm (violin)-principal of the 2nd violin of das Sinfonie Orchester Aachen, Andrew Simpson (viola), principal violist of das Sinfonie Orchester Aachen, Mateusz Kwiatkowski (cello), and the Simons Ensemble. Through their performances they will include east- and west-european composers, music from XIXth to XXIst centuries, Anatol Vieru, George Enescu, Bela Bartok, Cezar Frank, Johannes Brahms, Alexandr Skriabin, Marijn Simons, Adrian Williams. In the Opening Concert you will be part of a unique event: the world premiere of Water Song by the Dutch composer Marijn Simons inspired by three paintings with the same title by Emil Ciocoiu, a Romanian painter who lives and works in Gemmenich and Aachen. This composition will emphasize the complex connections between music and visual arts. Renowned Romanian CEPTURA wines will be represented in the ZARVA festival through the best wines from the Rotenberg cellars. The participants and the audience are invited to enjoy these wines after the first opening concert (8.09.10) as well as after the closing events (12.09.10).
